Upsell Campaigns

Cross-sells, frequently bought together, and post-purchase offers — setup overview.

The three upsell offer types

Create an Upsell campaign from Campaign → Create campaign → Upsell. Three offer types:

  • Cross-sell — recommend related products ("You may also like").
  • Frequently bought together — a combo suggestion with optional volume tiers.
  • Product add-on — small extras attached to a main product (gift wrap, batteries, warranty).

For each, recommendations are manual (you pick exactly which products appear) or automated (related/complementary products chosen for you — less setup, good for large catalogs).

The six placements

Each upsell campaign targets one placement:

  1. Product page — below the product details.
  2. Cart page — last chance before checkout.
  3. Pop-up — triggered at key moments, with configurable trigger and frequency.
  4. Checkout page — inside Shopify checkout.
  5. Post-purchase — a one-click offer between payment and the thank-you page; the customer accepts without re-entering payment. Supports a funnel of up to three sequenced offers (first, second, downsell) with a countdown.
  6. Thank-you page — after the order completes.

Checkout and post-purchase placements require Shopify's Checkout Extensibility. On stores without it, those campaigns save but won't display until the store is upgraded — the editor warns you.

Upsell discounts & styling

Each upsell can carry its own discount — none, percentage, or fixed amount — applied always or only if the trigger product is in the cart. Upsell widgets have their own catalog on the Widgets page (Upsell tab) for styling, just like the free-gift widgets.
