Installing & Activating Ego Subscriptions

Ego Subscriptions adds recurring purchases ("subscribe & save") to your Shopify store. Here's the full loop:

1. You create a subscription plan — which products, how often, and what discount subscribers get.
2. Customers see a subscription widget on your product pages and choose "Subscribe & save" instead of a one-time purchase.
3. The app bills them automatically on schedule and creates the recurring orders in Shopify.
4. Customers manage everything themselves (skip, pause, swap, cancel) in a customer portal.
5. You track performance on the analytics dashboard and manage every contract from the admin.

Failed payments are retried automatically, customers get email notifications at every step, and a Build a Box feature lets shoppers assemble their own subscription bundle.

Shopify only allows subscription purchases when your payment setup supports recurring billing. Make sure of two things:

• Your store uses Shopify Payments (or PayPal Express / another gateway that Shopify lists as subscription-compatible).
• Your checkout currency supports subscriptions in your country.

If the payment gateway doesn't support subscriptions, the widget simply won't render a subscription option — this is the #1 cause of "widget not showing" (see Widget Not Showing on Product Pages).

Install Ego Subscriptions from the Shopify App Store and approve the requested permissions. The app opens inside your Shopify admin. In the left navigation you'll find everything you need:

• Subscription plans — create and manage your plans.
• Subscriptions — every customer contract, with statuses and actions.
• Widgets — how the subscription options look on product pages.
• Build a box — the box-builder feature.
• Customer portal — what subscribers can do by themselves.
• Translations — localize every customer-facing text.
• Settings — billing retries, emails, discount combinations, shipping profiles.

Two theme components make the widget render. The Dashboard shows a status banner for each, so you always know what's missing:

A. App embed (the engine):

1. On the Dashboard, click Activate app embed. Your Theme Editor opens on the App embeds panel.
2. Toggle Ego Subscriptions on.
3. Click Save (top right of the Theme Editor).

B. App block (the widget's position on the product page):

1. On the Dashboard, click Add app block. The Theme Editor opens your product template.
2. In the left panel, the Ego Subscriptions block is added to the product information section — drag it to where the purchase options should sit (usually right above the Add to cart button).
3. Click Save.

Back on the Dashboard, both banners should now show Active. If one still shows inactive, refresh the page.

3. Preview in store — open a product that's in your plan and check the widget live.

Before announcing subscriptions to your customers, verify:

• ☑ Both Dashboard banners (app embed + app block) show Active.
• ☑ At least one subscription plan has status Active and contains the right products.
• ☑ On the storefront, the product page shows "One-time purchase" and your subscription option with the discounted price.
• ☑ A test checkout works — place a small subscription order yourself, then cancel it from Subscriptions in the admin.
