Notification Overview
Learn the basics of Push Notifications and how they help you engage customers. Discover notification types, key features, and how to use them to increase app engagement and drive sales.
Overview
Push Notifications help you communicate directly with customers who have installed your mobile app.
You can use notifications to announce promotions, introduce new products, recover unfinished purchases, and encourage users to return to your app.
Ego Mobile Builder supports:
Manual Notifications for one-time campaigns.
Automated Notifications triggered by customer actions.
Segments for targeting specific groups of app users.

Before you begin
A customer can receive a push notification only when they:
Have installed your mobile app.
Have opened the app at least once.
Have allowed push notification permission on their device.
Belong to the selected segment.
Meet the notification conditions, if applicable.
Enabling notifications in Ego Mobile Builder does not automatically grant device permission. Customers must approve notification access themselves.
Manual Notifications
A Manual Notification is a one-time campaign that you can send immediately or schedule for later.
Use Manual Notifications for:
Flash sales
New product launches
Seasonal promotions
New collection announcements
App-only offers
Store updates
When creating a Manual Notification, you can configure:
Notification title and message
Campaign image
Target segment
Redirect destination
Send time
Test notification
For complete instructions, see:
How to Create a Manual Notification
Automated Notifications
An Automated Notification is sent when an eligible customer meets a predefined trigger.
Use Automated Notifications for recurring customer journeys such as:
Welcome messages
Abandoned cart recovery
Abandoned checkout recovery
Customer re-engagement
Other supported behavioral triggers
When creating an Automated Notification, you can configure:
Trigger
Target segment
Delay and sending conditions
Notification content
Redirect destination
Automation status
For complete instructions, see:
How to Set Up an Automated Notification
Segments
A Segment is a group of app users who match selected conditions.
Segments help you send relevant messages to the right audience instead of sending every notification to all users.
Depending on the available conditions, segments may be used to target groups such as:
All eligible users
New users
Returning customers
Inactive users
Customers in a specific location
Users with selected shopping behaviors
How segments are applied
For a Manual Notification, the segment determines who is included when the campaign is sent.
For an Automated Notification, the user must:
Meet the automation trigger.
Belong to the selected segment.
Have push notification permission.
Meet any additional timing or exclusion conditions.
The number of users in a segment may be higher than the final delivery count because some users may not have notification permission or may no longer meet the sending conditions.
For complete instructions, see:
How to Create and Use Segments
Redirect destinations
You can choose where customers are taken after they tap a notification.
Supported destinations may include:
Home
Product
Collection
Cart
Custom screen
Another supported in-app destination
Choose a destination that directly matches the notification message.
For example, a notification promoting a new collection should open that collection rather than the app home screen.
Send a test notification
Before sending a campaign to customers, send a test notification to your test device.
Check:
Title and message
Image display
Text length
Redirect destination
Customer-facing appearance
Notification delivery
A successful test confirms that the content and destination are configured correctly. Final customer delivery still depends on segment eligibility, device permission, operating-system settings, and internet connection.
Recommended practices
Send notifications only when they provide clear customer value.
Use segments to improve message relevance.
Keep the title and message short.
Focus each notification on one main action.
Match the redirect destination with the campaign.
Avoid sending multiple notifications too close together.
Check the date, time, and timezone before scheduling.
Test every notification before sending.
Review active automations regularly and pause outdated campaigns.
Troubleshooting
Customers do not receive a notification
Confirm that they installed the correct app, allowed notifications, belong to the selected segment, and meet all sending conditions.
The audience is smaller than expected
Review the segment conditions. Users without push permission may not be eligible for delivery.
The notification opens the wrong screen
Review the redirect destination and send another test.
An automated notification is not sent
Confirm that the automation is active and that the user meets the trigger, segment, delay, and exclusion conditions.
A scheduled notification is delivered at the wrong time
Review the selected date, time, and timezone.
