Installing & Activating Ego Surveys
Install the app, enable the app embed, and verify surveys can reach your customers.
What is Ego Surveys?
Ego Surveys collects customer feedback directly inside your Shopify store. The full loop:
- You build a survey — questions, look & feel, and rules for who sees it.
- It reaches customers through one or more channels: a widget on store pages, an exit-intent prompt, the Thank you / Order status page after checkout, an automatic email after an order, a shareable link, or an embedded block.
- Responses flow into Analytics (response rates, per-question charts) and the Responses browser.
- Optionally, responses sync to Google Sheets in real time and trigger Shopify Flow automations.
Step 1 — Install the app
Install Ego Surveys from the Shopify App Store and approve the permissions (customers, orders, products, themes, files — used for targeting rules, post-purchase triggers, and rendering the widget). The app opens in your Shopify admin with five sections:
- Dashboard — setup guide, at-a-glance stats.
- Surveys — create and manage surveys.
- Responses — browse and export individual answers.
- Analytics — charts and metrics per survey.
- Integrations — Shopify Flow, Google Sheets, and more.
Step 2 — Activate the app embed
On-site widget and exit-intent surveys are rendered by a theme app embed called Ego Surveys. Enable it once:
- On the Dashboard setup guide, click Activate app — your Theme Editor opens on the App embeds panel.
- Toggle Ego Surveys on.
- Click Save in the Theme Editor.
The setup step flips to Activated once detected.
Only the on-site and exit-intent channels need the embed. Post-purchase, email, and link surveys work without it — so even before touching the theme you can run a Thank-you-page survey. Re-enable the embed whenever you publish a new theme.
Step 3 — Finish the setup guide
The Dashboard guide has three steps:
- Activate app — done above.
- Create your first survey — the button takes you to the survey builder; see Create Your First Survey for a walkthrough.
- Visualize how it appears — Preview in store opens your storefront so you can see the survey live.
You can dismiss the guide at any time — it's just a checklist, dismissing changes nothing.
Quick verification checklist
- ☑ App embed shows Activated in the setup guide.
- ☑ At least one survey has status Active with at least one channel enabled.
- ☑ Visiting a targeted page in an incognito window shows the widget (respect the timing delay if you set one).
- ☑ Submitting a test response makes it appear under Responses.
