Survey Not Showing on Storefront

Symptom-based diagnosis — from the most common cause down.

Nothing shows anywhere → check the app embed

The on-site widget and exit intent render only when the Ego Surveys app embed is on. Open your Theme Editor → App embeds, toggle Ego Surveys on, save. Two gotchas:

  • Recently published a new theme? The embed must be re-enabled on that theme.
  • The Thank-you-page channel does not use the embed — if that one works but the widget doesn't, the embed is almost certainly the issue.

Widget missing on a specific page → check status, channel, and pages

In Surveys, open the survey and confirm:

  • Status is Active (not Inactive).
  • The right channel is enabled — the on-site widget renders only with Onsite Survey (or Exit Intent) on.
  • The page you're viewing is among the channel's selected pages (e.g. the widget targets Product pages but you're testing on the homepage).

Shows for others but not for you → check targeting

Targeting rules can silently exclude you: device type (Mobile-only while you test on desktop), login state, country, customer conditions ("New customer" excludes you as a repeat visitor), or visit-frequency rules. Two-step diagnosis:

  1. Test in an incognito window — you become a fresh, logged-out visitor.
  2. Still nothing? Temporarily set targeting to All customers / All devices, re-test, then re-add rules one by one to find the excluding one.

Showed once, now gone → check timing and recurrence

If timing is X seconds after load, wait out the delay. If recurrence is Show only once or Stop after X attempts, you've used up your own impressions — incognito makes you a new visitor again. Delay before reappearing means it's simply waiting out the window.

Exit-intent surveys trigger on cursor movement toward leaving the page — on mobile this behaves differently. Test exit intent on desktop first.
