Create Your First Survey

A full walkthrough of the builder — from template to live survey, with a worked example.

What we'll build

As a worked example we'll build the classic attribution survey: "How did you hear about us?" shown on the Thank you page right after checkout — the highest-response placement there is. Every step adapts to any other survey.

Step 1 — Start from a template

Go to SurveysCreate new survey. The template gallery opens; pick the Post-purchase survey template (it already contains "How did you hear about our store?" plus three follow-ups), or click Create from scratch for a blank survey. Either way the full-screen builder opens.

Step 2 — Understand the builder

A survey is organized into pages:

  • Each page has an optional title and description, holds one or more questions, and you set how many questions show per page.
  • Drag to reorder questions and pages.
  • The live preview on the right switches between Desktop, Mobile, and Fullscreen — check mobile before publishing, most responses come from phones.
  • A save bar tracks changes; nothing goes live until you save.

Step 3 — Adjust the questions

Click Add content to open the question picker — 5 families: Choice, Rating & Ranking, Contact Info, Text, and Pages (see Question Types Reference). For our example:

  1. Keep "How did you hear about our store?" as a Single Choice with your real channels (TikTok, Instagram, Google, a friend…).
  2. Enable the Other option setting on it — the answers you didn't think of are often the most valuable.
  3. Delete follow-up questions you don't need — shorter surveys complete better. One to three questions is the sweet spot for post-purchase.

Step 4 — Check the channel

In the channel settings, make sure Order Status/Thankyou page is enabled (it is by default on new surveys) and choose where it renders: the Thank you page, the Order status page, or both. Disable the Onsite Survey channel if you only want the post-purchase placement.

Step 5 — Activate and test

Save, then set the survey's status to Active in the survey list. To test, place a small test order in your store — the survey appears right on the Thank you page. Your answer shows up under Responses within moments.

Manage surveys from the list at any time: filter All / Active / Inactive, and use the row actions to duplicate (great for A/B tests), delete, or change status.
