On-site Widget & Exit-Intent Surveys
Pages, timing, positions, and frequency rules — configured step by step.
Setting up the on-site widget
Enable the Onsite Survey channel and choose:
- Pages — Home page, Product pages, Collection pages, Cart page, Blog pages. New surveys target Home, Product, and Collection by default. Ask page-relevant questions: product-finding feedback on collections, "anything missing?" on product pages.
- Position — Top/Bottom Left/Right or Center (Bottom Left default).
- Styling — see Customizing Survey Appearance.
Remember: this channel requires the Ego Surveys app embed to be enabled in your theme.
Timing
Choose when the widget appears after page load: Show immediately, or X seconds after load (1–10, 15, or 20 seconds). A 3–5 second delay filters out bouncing visitors without losing engaged ones — recommended for most on-site surveys.
Exit-intent surveys
The Exit Intent channel triggers when the visitor moves to leave the store — the "before you go" moment. Its extra targeting is the cart condition:
- Has product in cart → ask "What stopped you from checking out?" — you're diagnosing checkout hesitation.
- Has empty cart → ask "Couldn't find what you were looking for?" — you're diagnosing discovery problems.
Create two exit-intent surveys with opposite cart conditions to cover both cases with the right question.
Exit intent is detected from cursor movement, so it behaves differently on touch devices — always test it on desktop first.
Frequency & repeat rules
The recurrence setting controls how often the same visitor sees the survey:
| Option | Behavior | Use for |
|---|---|---|
| When the answer is not completed | Keeps showing until the visitor finishes. | Important surveys where you want every visitor's answer once. |
| Show only once | One impression per visitor, ever. | Minimal-annoyance surveys. |
| Always show | Every eligible page view. | Testing; rarely for production. |
| Stop after X attempts | Gives up after N impressions. | Balanced default. |
| Delay before reappearing | Waits N minutes/hours/days/weeks/months between shows. | Long-running always-on surveys. |
Separately, max responses per customer caps how many times one person can submit.
